Book sale and March Madness hits Andover!First, a huge thanks to everyone who participated in the Star Wars LEGO event at Bachelder in February. Kids built space ships, tackled mystery bags, and using play-doh, styrofoam balls, screws, and paperclips built original droids. It was a blast! Don't miss the book sale and hot cocoa bar at Bachelder Library during February vacation. Any time the library is open. Books, hot cocoa with toppings and whip cream--you won't want to miss out!
March Madness hits Andover Libraries! Game sheets went home from school but can also be picked up at Bachelder and Andover Public, or downloaded below. Easy to play! Set reading goals and check off on the game sheet when you meet them. Add your name to the lottery at either library and winners will be picked in April. What are you playing to win? Age groups K-2nd, 3-5th, 6th-8th, 9th-12th will enter a lottery for a free large pizza at Pizza Chef. Adults will enter a lottery for a gift card to Morgan Hill Bookstore. READY, SET...READ!
(Sign up so you can receive a reminder and/or cancellation email.) Drop-in any time between 4-8pm ready to dive into LEGOs. Pick a challenge card and then design and build. Engage your imagination and work with a sibling, a friend, or together as a family. Compete in the speed round. Who can build an escape pod in five minutes? The timer is set. Are you up for it? Of course, if you’re feeling especially brave you can tackle one of the mystery challenges. Hit the fueling station and then head back out for more adventures. LEGOs for older kids and Duplos for smaller hands.
MARCH MADNESS HITS ANDOVER PUBLIC LIBRARIES!
Pick up your game sheets at Bachelder or Andover Public Library and get ready to play! Game sheets available for adults, kids, and families. How much reading time can you squeeze into a month? More information to come. Game sheets available later in February! Time for a story. It’s amazing how our perspective on certain things change with time. When my kids were old enough--oh, I’d say about two years old--I couldn’t wait to dive into the Christmas specials I watched growing up. Okay, I’ll be honest, I was looking forward to watching them just as much! I have so much nostalgia in Rudolph and the misfit toys and the songs of the heat and cold miser. In case--gasp--you’ve never heard of them. Watch here. So, we made hot cocoa and sliced a hunk of gingerbread (though I believe the gingerbread didn’t enter the picture until years later), and snuggled together on the couch to watch Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Of course this entire memory is now like a Hallmark moment. I’ve forgotten any squabbling about where to sit or spilled cocoa or cookie crumbs on the carpet. Time is funny that way. I knew the Bumble was harmless. I knew it was just a short scene. I knew he’d lose his teeth, making him especially harmless. But I’d forgotten about those few seconds of scary music that signaled the Bumble was about to arrive on the scene.
I wasn’t seeing it or remembering from the point of view of a two year old. And it really is the music, not the Bumble. He’s just a fluffy, overgrown, arctic teddy bear. For years, those first few notes would sound, terror would strike, and my son would sprint from the room and hide. #parentingfail Fitting in all the TV specials and movies is a juggling act, and that’s just the tip of the Holiday iceberg. The Christmas season is busy as we pack in ALL the things. Parties and shopping and wrapping. Never mind work and sport schedules. Sometimes it’s nice to take a break. A time--set apart--to spend time with family and connect with others. Regardless of age or situation, we’re never too old for stories and songs. Everyone’s invited to a Holiday Story Time and Sing-a-Long at Bachelder Library. I’ll read some stories. Margo Coolidge will lead us in some songs! |
